Introduction

Welcome to the Grande Prairie Airport's Accessibility Plan and Feedback Process. We are committed to providing fully accessible facilities and ensuring a barrier-free environment for all travelers, including persons with disabilities.

Accessibility Services

Curbside Assistance Zone

Our curbside assistance zone is conveniently located between the Airport Terminal Building's Departures and Arrivals doors. This area is designed for drop-off and pick-up of passengers needing assistance.

Designated curbside areas are available in front of the Airport Terminal Building for passenger convenience.

Parking

We offer designated parking spaces for people with disabilities in our long-term parking lot, these spacers are conveniently situated closest to the Airport Terminal Building.

Transportation

Rental Cars

Accessible rental cars are available at Grande Prairie Airport. To ensure availability, please notify your car rental company at least 48 hours in advance of your pick-up time.

Taxis

Accessible taxi service: Provided by Yellow Cabs, our contracted taxi company. To ensure availability, please request an accessible taxi in advance by calling 780-539-3366 or using the Yellow Cabs courtesy phone located next to the arrivals exit door. Arrival and Check-in

  • Dedicated passenger parking areas located close to the Airport Terminal Building
  • Automatically controlled doors into both Departures and Arrivals
  • Curbside drop-off of passengers available
  • Check-in counters with writing surfaces for those using a wheelchair

Personal Assistance

Our Customer Service representatives are available in the Airport Terminal Building to provide directions and answer questions. You can easily find them at the Customer Service Desk situated on the main floor of the Airport Terminal Building near the arrivals doors.

A Terminal Service Agent is also available to assist with carrying chairs or bags from the curb to your respective airline check-in counter and from the baggage claim area back to the curb.

Wheelchair assistance within the Airport Terminal Building, from airline check-in to the departure gate, and from the aircraft to the baggage claim area, is provided by the airline you are traveling with.

Wheelchairs and Electric Cart Services

Wheelchairs and electric cart services are available from the Airport Terminal Building curbside zone.

For arrangements, please contact the Grande Prairie Airport in advance of your travel by calling Customer Service at 780-876-6224 . Upon arrival at the Grande Prairie Airport curb call Customer Service at 780-876-6224 for immediate assistance.

Signage

Braille signage is located at washroom entrances, and there are doorless entry washrooms available. The Airport Terminal Building is equipped with large signage in contrasting colors.

Washrooms

Public washroom facilities are located in both pre and post-security areas for guests, including wheelchair-accessible stalls and infant changing tables.

In the main Airport Terminal Building, accessible washroom facilities are situated between the arrivals and departure doors. Post-security, accessible washrooms are conveniently located next to the kiosk.

Telephones/Water Fountains

Telephones and water fountains are all wheelchair accessible.

Service Animal Relief Areas

A designated accessible relief area for service animals and pets is available for public use. This area is located directly south of the Airport Terminal Building, near the arrivals exit doors.

Within the secure side of the Airport Terminal Building, a second designated accessible service animals and pet relief area is available after the screening checkpoint in the secure area/departures lounge. This area is located at Gate 1 and is equipped with hand sanitizer, waste disposal bags, and a covered waste collection bin.

Website Accessibility

The Grande Prairie Airport website www.grandeprairieairport.com has been made fully accessible. To enable accessibility features, click on the blue person icon located at the bottom right of the website. You can customize viewing options to better suit your needs.

Other Accessibility Features

  • Baggage belts are equipped with belt start-up alarms and flashing lights
  • Wheelchairs available for use in the Airport Terminal Building through the Customer Service Desk
  • Elevators provide access to the second-floor Viewpoint Restaurant, observation area, and Grande Prairie Airport administration office

Additional Information

Passengers requiring special assistance can be accompanied by an aide, family member, or designated escort through the pre-board screening checkpoint to their boarding gate. Contact your airline directly for more information about escort passes for parents of unaccompanied minors or those who need extra assistance.

Escort passes are typically issued by your airline upon airport check-in. If you check in online or via mobile, please visit your airline's customer service counter to request an escort pass. Escorts must present photo identification and will undergo pre-board screening.
