Restricted Commercial Air Service Restrictions

COVID-19 circumstances and updates are occurring rapidly at this time and we wish to assure the travelling public that the Grande Prairie Airport is monitoring and adjusting where necessary with public and employee safety as our top priority.

While we realize that air travel is a key point of concern for the potential spread of the virus we also understand that this essential service is a necessary form of travel to our region.

Today we announce the implementation of restricted access to our airport, effective midnight, Sunday March, March 29, 2020 for commercial air carrier service. This restriction will permit passenger air service to operate at the airport between the hours of 3:00pm and 8:00pm daily. The Air Terminal Building will be accessible during these hours and will be closed outside of these hours. The initial length of this restricted access is expected to be from Monday March 30, 2020 through to Thursday April 30, 2020. Communications with air carriers, airports, government officials and local authorities are ongoing to review the needs of the community.

“It is incumbent upon our airport to do our part in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our region”, says Brian Grant, CEO. “We recognize our responsibilities to provide essential service to the region and as such the airport continues to remain open as usual 24 hours per day 7 days per week to all other users.

The Grande Prairie Airport has a dedicated monitoring team active 24 hours a day to ensure the most relevant information and updates are carefully reviewed and operations are adjusted accordingly.

We wish to remind the public that the Grande Prairie Airport does not have direct air service to any locations outside of Canada and arriving passengers from those locations are being monitored under the direction of our federal and provincial authorities at appointed ports of entry including international airports.
