On June 17th, Grande Prairie Airport was honoured to host an Indigenous Culture Celebration in partnership with the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre.
This meaningful event brought members of our community together to recognize and celebrate the rich local Indigenous culture of our region. During the ceremony, we were proud to unveil our new baggage belt displays, which were created to honour Indigenous history, culture, and connection to the Lands on which we live and work.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Elder Loretta Parenteau-English, Grande Prairie Friendship Centre Board President Lois Duke, Grande Prairie Airport Commission Member and Deputy Mayor Mike O’Connor, Emcee and Dance Leader Monique Hommy, and dancers Andi J LaRocque and Melanie Scott for sharing their time, knowledge, leadership, culture, and talents with us.
We are also grateful to the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, our guests, airport partners, team members, and everyone who joined us in making today’s celebration respectful and memorable.
Grande Prairie Airport respectfully acknowledges the Beaver, Cree, Dene, and Métis people as the original caretakers of these Lands and surrounding areas. We are grateful to live, learn, work, and operate on Treaty 8 territory within Turtle Island, and acknowledge that these Lands have been home to diverse and sovereign First Nations and Inuit Nations since Time Immemorial.
